John: TELL US ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE FESTIVAL MARKING ITS 11TH YEAR. 11 YEARS AGO, ERIC WALDEN AND JACKIE FROM THE CHINA BOARD ROOM APPROACHED THE HONOLULU MUSEUM OF ART WITH THIS IDEA TO CREATE A SURFING FESTIVAL. EVER SINCE THEN THE MUSEUM CURATED THE LINE EVERY SUMMER. WE SPEND JULY SCREENING SURF FILMS FROM AROUND THE WORLD AND HAWAI’I. WE LOOK FORWARD TO IT EVERY YEAR. THIS YEAR WE HAVE IN PARTICULAR A LOT OF SUPPORT. John: A LOT COME IN? A LOT OF SONGS AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT. I NEED TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO OUR SUPPORT NORDSTROM AND VANS AND HAWAI’I LIFE. THERE’S ALSO GOING TO BE PERSONAL STORIES. THIS YEAR’S REFLECT THE DIVERSITY WE HAVE IN HAWAI’I AS WELL. WE TALK A LOT ABOUT WE HAVE A SPECIAL PROGRAM FOR ADAPTIVE SURFING. SO OUR OPENING NIGHT, WHICH IS JULY 7TH IS THE HAWAI’I PREMIER OF THE FILM CALLED MOMENTUM GENERATION. DOCUMENTS THE SURF FEW FROM 1990s INCLUDING KELLY SLATER AND OTHERS. THEY APPEAR IN TAYLOR’S FILM. WHICH KICK STARTED A LOT OF THESE GUYS’ CAREER. THAT OPENING FILM WE’RE EXCITED ABOUT. DIRECTORS ARE GOING TO BE COMING OUT AS WELL. AND THE EACHI EACH — OPENING IS SPECIAL. THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR WE’RE TYING OUR SURF FESTIVAL TO AN EXHIBITION CALLED “MAKING WAVES.” IT FEATURES THE MUSEUM’S WOMEN CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS. OCEAN WITH WATER THROUGH THEIR WORK THE AND THE GALLERY SPACE. WE’RE OPENING UP THIS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SURF FILM FESTIVAL.
