We decided to float mount the document, leaving
a substantial border to allow the viewer to really see the document in its natural state.
Having removed the heavy repairs, the heavy backing, the paper has a life to it again
– it’s not flat, you can see the creases, you can see areas of damage and surface dirt,
which has all become part of its history. We wanted the mount to highlight the document
and allow your eye to travel to it. Again we used an archival paper and adhesive that
is sympathetic to the document, and using very small hinges secure the document to the
mount. This allows it to be on display at a slight angle during the exhibition, without
any danger of the edges coming into contact with the mount that it’s sitting on.
