From Hawkeye to Stopping Bullying Through Theatre – University of Iowa

– [Anton] I always wanted to use education as a tool for social change. CLIMB Theatre is an educational theater located in the Twin Cities. Our mission is to inspire
and propel people, especially young people, towards acts that benefit themselves, each other and their community. – [Male Actor] I mean, Cachoya’s your problem. – [Female Actor] Bullying
is everybody’s problem, or you wouldn’t feel so bad when he does to it to me. – This upcoming season, I’m rolling out 12 brand new plays that have never been
done for CLIMB before. I decided to focus on five skills with all of our programming. Empathy, resiliency, self-control, advocacy, and accountability. – [Female Actor] You be you. – [Male Actor] Okay. – [Female Actor] And I’ll be Cachoya. You’re such a big cry baby. Wah wah wah wah wah wah wah. – Well, in the MFA in playwriting at Iowa is one of the best in the country. At Iowa, I realized that I was not alone in my world view, but also that my world view wasn’t the only world view that exists. As a theater maker, I’m not here to give the answers, I’m here to provide a catalyst for the search for answers. (fun music)
