Kyle Selig Slays Three Musical Dream Roles Off His Broadway Bucket List

Hi, I’m Kyle Selig. I play Aaron Samuels in Mean Girls on Broadway and this is my Broadway Bucket List. (upbeat music) My first song is Run Freedom Run from Urinetown and for this Broadway Bucket List, I tried to choose songs that have been with me for a really long time and that sort of reveals my sort of weird taste in musicals. I think is what it turns into. And this song was actually my first high school audition song. It sort of felt like the start of everything so enjoy. ♪ Run, freedom, run! ♪ ♪ Freedom, run away! ♪ ♪ My friends, you have to run ♪ ♪ Run-a, run-a, run ♪ ♪ Freedom, run away! ♪ ♪ That freedom sun ♪ ♪ Will shine someday ♪ ♪ ‘Til then you gotta run ♪ ♪ Run-a, run-a, run ♪ ♪ Freedom, run away! ♪ ♪ There’s a trickle of sweat ♪ ♪ Drippin’ in your ear ♪ ♪ But still, you gotta run ♪ ♪ Run-a, run-a, run ♪ ♪ Freedom, run away! ♪ ♪ Now, don’t you fret ♪ ♪ And never fear! ♪ ♪ ‘Til freedom’s ♪ ♪ Won, won-a, won-a, won ♪ ♪ Freedom, run away! ♪ ♪ There’s a great big Cladwell on your tail! ♪ ♪ And he’s put his henchmen on your trail! ♪ ♪ I’m simply layin’ out the facts for you ♪ ♪ Great big Cladwell’s makin’ tracks for you ♪ ♪ Ain’t no time to relax when you ♪ ♪ Run, freedom, run! ♪ ♪ Run, freedom, run! ♪ ♪ Freedom, run away! ♪ ♪ My friends, you gotta run ♪ ♪ Run-a, run-a, run ♪ ♪ Freedom, run away! ♪ ♪ That freedom sun ♪ ♪ Will shine someday! ♪ ♪ ‘Til then you gotta ♪ ♪ Run, run-a-run run ♪ ♪ Run-a, run-a, run ♪ ♪ Hallelujah! ♪ ♪ Freedom run! ♪ ♪ With the wind in your hair ♪ ♪ You’ll run to freedom’s glory! ♪ ♪ That freedom sun will shine ♪ ♪ All over your freedom story ♪ ♪ I said freedom – ♪ ♪ I said freedom ♪ ♪ I said freedom ♪ ♪ Freedom run ♪ ♪ Away! ♪ My next song is Always There Not One Maiden Breast from Pirates of Penzance and it’s a weird choice for sure. But I growing up watched this movie over and over again and I loved it and it’s so funny so this song is he’s singing to about 15 to 20 women, like the entire ensemble from the musical and I think that there could be a really cool 2020 really weird production of it and I think it’s time. ♪ Oh, is there not one maiden breast ♪ ♪ Which does not feel the moral beauty ♪ ♪ Of making worldly interest ♪ ♪ Subordinate to sense of duty? ♪ ♪ Who would not give up willingly ♪ ♪ All matrimonial ambition, ♪ ♪ To rescue such a one as I ♪ ♪ From his unfortunate position? ♪ ♪ From his position ♪ ♪ To rescue such a one as I ♪ ♪ From his unfortunate position? ♪ ♪ Oh, is there not one maiden here ♪ ♪ Whose homely face and bad complexion ♪ ♪ Have caused all hope to disappear ♪ ♪ Of ever winning man’s affection? ♪ ♪ To such a one, if such there be, ♪ ♪ I swear by heaven’s arch above you, ♪ ♪ If you will cast your eyes on me, ♪ ♪ However plain you be ♪ ♪ I’ll love you! ♪ ♪ However plain you be ♪ ♪ If you will cast your eyes on me ♪ ♪ However plain you be ♪ ♪ I’ll love you! ♪ ♪ I’ll love you ♪ ♪ I’ll love, love ♪ ♪ I’ll love you ♪ My final song is Marry Me A Little from Company and I was obsessed with Company in high school and tried to sing all the songs from it in college and all the teachers would say, “Yeah but you’re like a little young for it.” And now that I’m getting older, I feel like I can finally be grounded in myself to watch Katrina Lenk play it on Broadway. And that’s gonna be enough for me. ♪ Marry me a little, ♪ ♪ Love me just enough ♪ ♪ Cry, but not too often, ♪ ♪ Play, but not too rough ♪ ♪ Keep a tender distance ♪ ♪ so we’ll both be free ♪ ♪ That’s the way it ought to be ♪ ♪ I’m ready! ♪ ♪ Marry me a little, ♪ ♪ Do it with a will ♪ ♪ Make a few demands ♪ ♪ I’m able to fulfill ♪ ♪ Want me more than others, ♪ ♪ Not exclusively ♪ ♪ That’s the way it ought to be ♪ ♪ I’m ready! ♪ ♪ I’m ready now! ♪ ♪ You can be my best friend, ♪ ♪ I can be your right arm ♪ ♪ We’ll go through a fight or two ♪ ♪ No harm, no harm ♪ ♪ We’ll look not too deep, ♪ ♪ We’ll go not too far ♪ ♪ We won’t have to give up a thing, ♪ ♪ We’ll stay who we are ♪ ♪ Right? ♪ ♪ Okay, then ♪ ♪ I’m ready! ♪ ♪ I’m ready now! ♪ ♪ Someone ♪ ♪ Marry me a little, ♪ ♪ Love me just enough ♪ ♪ Warm and sweet and easy, ♪ ♪ Just the simple stuff ♪ ♪ Keep a tender distance ♪ ♪ So we’ll both be free ♪ ♪ That’s the way it ought to be ♪ ♪ I’m ready! ♪ ♪ Marry me a little, ♪ ♪ Body, heart, and soul ♪ ♪ Passionate as hell ♪ ♪ But always in control ♪ ♪ Want me first and foremost, ♪ ♪ Keep me company ♪ ♪ That’s the way it ought to be ♪ ♪ I’m ready! ♪ ♪ I’m ready now! ♪ ♪ Oh, how gently we’ll talk, ♪ ♪ Oh, how softly we’ll tread ♪ ♪ All the stings, ♪ ♪ The ugly things ♪ ♪ We’ll keep unsaid ♪ ♪ We’ll build a cocoon ♪ ♪ Of love and respect ♪ ♪ You promise whatever you like, ♪ ♪ I’ll never collect ♪ ♪ Right? ♪ ♪ Okay, then. ♪ ♪ I’m ready ♪ ♪ I’m ready now ♪ ♪ Someone ♪ ♪ I’m ready! ♪
