Last King of Bali, UHM Kennedy Theatre Feb 7-16, 2020

(music) It’s a modern form based on traditional
Balinese arts that have come together in a new kind of hybrid form. So we have
traditional wayang kulit which is shadow puppetry but it’s no longer on a
small screen like you would see in a traditional performance it’s
transferred to the big screen we are also adding in shadow actors who become kind of like large-scale puppets and they will interact with the small traditional
puppets and then we’re also including traditional Balinese dance in front of
the screen and we’re including traditional Balinese gamelan music to accompany the
entire show so the entire show is scripted and scored through. And so it is
it is based in traditional Balinese arts but it’s definitely a modern take on it.
