Romantics Anonymous is a musical comedy about two chocolate makers who fall in love but who suffer from varying degrees of social anxiety. It’s a story that a lot of people can relate to. I think we all have those little idiosyncrasies and social anxieties that pop up in our own lives. So we follow them through the various hilarious situations that arise. The cast is so awesome. They’re so funny. They sound marvellous and they bring a whole lot of heart and comedy to the show. The show’s a really small, intimate, quirky show and I think it’s really great for the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. Chocolate works, I think, really well as a central metaphor for the story. It’s something that’s sweet, but also has notes of bitterness. It’s a fun, surprising, charming, awkward love story.
