Verona Area Community Theater presents “Billy Elliot”


VACT OPENS THEIR 2016-2017 SEASON WITH THE GROUNDBREAKING MUSICAL BILLY ELLIOT. PERFORMANCES RUN OCTOBER 20TH-23RD AT THE VAHS PAC WITH PERFORMANCES AT 7:30PM ON THURSDAY THE 20TH, FRIDAY THE 21ST, AND SATURDAY THE 22ND AND 2:00PM ON SATURDAY THE 22ND AND SUNDAY THE 23RD. THE VERONA AREA HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMING ARTS CENTER IS LOCATED AT 300 RICHARD ST. BASED ON THE 2000 FILM WRITTEN BY LEE HALL, BILLY ELLIOT THE MUSICAL TELLS THE STORY OF A YOUNG BOY NAMED BILLY WHO DISCOVERS A STRONG PASSION AND TALENT FOR BALLET DANCING IN THE MIDST OF THE 1984-1985 MINERS STRIKE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM. BILLY’S COMMUNITY IS STRIKING AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT CLOSURE OF MINES BY THE HATED MARGARET THATCHER, MAKING BILLY’S DISCOVERY ABOUT HIS LOVE OF DANCE AN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT THING TO PURSUE. THE MUSICAL VERSION FEATURES A BOOK AND LYRICS BY LEE HALL AND MUSIC BY THE ETERNALLY FAMOUS ELTON JOHN. THE ORIGINAL PRODUCTION OPENED ON BROADWAY IN 2008 AND WAS DIRECTED BY STEPHEN DALDRY AND CHOREOGRAPHED BY PETER DARLING. AUDIENCES WILL BE CAPTIVATED BY A VARIETY OF MUSIC INCLUDING THE SHOW-STOPPING “EXPRESSING YOURSELF”, THE MOVING “ONCE WE WERE KINGS”, AND THE INSPIRING “ELECTRICITY”. THE SHOW IS FILLED WITH TONS OF DANCING, BEAUTIFUL VOCALS, AND IMPRESSIVE ACCENTS. VACT’S PRODUCTION FEATURES A CAST OF 59 AREA ADULTS AND CHILDREN. PETE PIERANTOZZI, A 15 YEAR-OLD DANCER FROM MIDDLETON, PLAYS THE TITLE ROLE OF BILLY. A STUDENT OF THE KEHL SCHOOL OF DANCE, PETE IS A SOPHOMORE AT MIDDLETON HIGH SCHOOL AND PLANS TO PURSUE DANCE PROFESSIONALLY IN THE FUTURE. FELLOW CAST MEMBERS INCLUDE SHANNON SEIP (MRS. WILKINSON), STEVE NIBBE (DAD), BENJAMIN JOHNSON (TONY), DEE BALDOCK (GRANDMA), 13 YEAR-OLD FLYNN MARCUS (MICHAEL), AND 12 YEAR-OLD BELLA BECKER (DEBBIE). THE PRODUCTION IS CO-DIRECTED BY ALYSSA DVORAK AND TERRY DVORAK, A MOTHER-DAUGHTER TEAM FROM VERONA. ALYSSA ALSO TOOK ON THE ADDITIONAL ROLE OF CHOREOGRAPHER WHILE VAHS SENIOR BRETT WAGNER SERVED AS MUSIC DIRECTOR AND VACT FOUNDER DEE BALDOCK SERVED AS THE PRODUCER.
